The streets are a little safer now

3 WEEK WEDDING BREAK Good morning blog readers! I hope you're enjoying the new blog design!  After I booked up summer 2010 with weddings, I decided to take a few weekends off from shooting weddings to give myself a chance to catch up, breathe, improve my business and catch up some more! So, that's where I am - in the midst of three weeks off from weddings! : )  I'm shooting bridals, but I can't show any of those to you till later!  This break has been a great reminder of why we need time be still, look at our lives and ask "Am I accomplishing my goals? "Am I glorifying the Lord in my work?" "Am I the wife/daughter/friend I need to be?" "Am I the photographer I want to be?"  The Lord (in a very unique way) called me to this profession and I hope and pray that I show His heart in all that I do. OFFICER SNOD Blake and I had the privilege of watching one of our most dear friends, "Officer Snod" graduate from the Arlington Police Academy. As he is now in field training, he and the other brave men and women that risk their lives to keep us safe are constantly in my prayers. Blake and I couldn't be prouder of Officer Snod, the class salutatorian! I am convinced that the streets are a little safer now. We love you, Snods!

Welcoming home the troops

Every day, more than 100 soldiers pass through DFW Airport on their way home for two weeks of well-deserved rest and recuperation (R&R).  As they return home from their service in Iraq and Afghanistan,  volunteer greeters begin the troops’ visit on a high note.  They are in need of volunteers each day to welcome home our heroes -- it's simple to do, easy to find and extremely rewarding. Click here for more information about how you can get involved. We had the opportunity last week to participate in Welcome Home A Hero at the DFW airport, in conjunction with SLANT 45, the philanthropic initiative for this year’s Super Bowl, of which President and Mrs. Bush are honorary co-chairs.  The soldiers arriving off the plane didn't know President and Mrs. Bush would be there to greet them and their faces as they came around the corner to see the President were priceless.  Anyone who comes to greet our troops will be an immense blessing to them- just a handshake, a poster or a smile will make their day.  If you're looking for a simple way to give back, this is it. Thank you to Mrs. Bush for posting a few of these pictures on her facebook page! See them here: http://fb.me/HAKMeimg

Welcome home!

My son was greeted both times upon his return by wonderful caring American's like yourselves. The first tioem he said they gave them a standing ovation and clapped when they boarded the plan home and then at the airport too. How awesome it is to be an AMERICAN. Keep up the good work everyone!

  • L. Hein: I know first hand what a wonderful feeling it is to greet some of our very Brave, wonderful service people returning to the states. I happen to be in the International Flight area going to Italy on a vacation about a year ago. When we arrived as we were coming down the gangway we heard a tremendous noise of people clapping and yelling Thank You and Welcome Home and Thanks for all you do for our country. I immediately joined in as did all the other passengers deplaning from Austin. This went on for over 30 minutes as it was evidently a 747 plane load coming back from Iraq. Just thinking about this gives me chills. What an honor to have been part of this welcome. Things like this makes me so proud to be an American.
